Salisbury church food mobile, serving single moms Valerie Zentmyer

To get my 5 hours I volunteered for 3 hours doing a food mobile for my church and another 3 hours helping with a event for single moms in the community. For the food mobile anyone in the community could come and get food even if they had already gone to the food bank this month. The people who came through were so excited for the food. You could tell some of them were in poverty due to age, health, or situational. One thing i learned was that poverty comes in all shapes, sizes, color, and classes. One family it seemed like the Dad had just lost his job and was struggling to feed his family.
During the other event was for single moms and it provided them with some pampering, meal, and child care. I helped by waxing eyebrows for the moms which they were very excited about. This was such a great opportunity for the moms to get refreshed. They had a night off from having to worry about feeding their children, cooking, cleaning, and just got to relax. The church had different stations from getting a hair cut, nails done, facials, eye brow waxing, and message chairs. This was so great for the moms because they got to have some girl time, de-stress, and get pampered without having to worry about the financial burden of paying for it all. As we talked about in class being a woman is hard enough, and being a single mom is even harder. So hopefully this event refreshed and renewed moms spirits.
I really enjoyed this assignment and had a blast chatting with all the ladies as I waxed their eyebrows, and hearing a little about their life stories. My photos won't up load I'll try again later.
Thanks for reading,
Valerie Zentmyer
